My name is Mike and I am a wood turner. My day job is as a Project Manager in the IT field, but my hobbies include woodworking, Ham Radio, and various community volunteer opportunities.
I live in North Texas and started turning wood about two years ago. I have been a wood worker of some srt since I was a kid begging dad to "let me build something". I also enjoy making small furniture such as side tables and blanket chests, as well as smaller items such as jewelry boxes.
My wood turning hobby started by seeing a local turning club's booth at one of the traveling wood working shows. They pointed me to a club in the county where I live (Golden Triangle Woodturners, see links page) and it took off from there. I spoke with the members in that club and asked their opinions and suggestions on learning the craft and getting started. I took a pen turning class at the local Woodcraft store and created my first turned project. While I now turn bowls, hollow lidded boxes, and most recently spheres, I still sell pen and pencil sets to friends and acquaintances. As with other turners, I am always looking to expand and grow in the craft.
